About the Event
Rescheduled from April 2020 - Members Only, Limited Seating Event!
"Kensington in Crisis," the award-winning film that documents the opioid overdose epidemic, will screen exclusively for members of the Press Club on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at The Vault at Vinyl Revival, 35-37 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne, PA 19050. The event begins with a one-hour wine and cheese reception at 6 p.m. followed by the 55-minute film and Q and A.
Directed and produced by Press Club Member John Ricciutti and Jill Frechie, edited by Isaac Mell, and featuring music director David Uosikkinen (The Hooters), the film documents the opioid epidemic in Kensington and follows the police, city officials, and residents who struggle to find answers among the perils of the epidemic.
According to a New York Times article in October 2018, “Philadelphia County has the highest overdose rate of any of the 10 most populous counties in America. The city’s Department of Health estimates that 75,000 residents are addicted to heroin and other opioids, and each day, many of them commute to Kensington to buy drugs.”
The documentary hopes to shed light on the issues, problems, and solutions in Kensington as all of America looks to Philadelphia to quickly find answers.
Film contains some graphic images of drug use.
Admission is $20 and a portion of proceeds will go to Lower Merion & Narberth PA TV.
Jill Frechie and John Ricciutti will be available for questions immediately following the screening.
