About the Event

The Media Gothic walking tour looks at what is weird about Media including ghosts in buildings, the location where a bureau of the government crumbled, subterranean cadaver stories, and more! Expect some history, some ghost tales, some deranged killers, a giant explosion…and the story behind the mysterious elephant of State Street.

Check in at our table on the second floor of Sligo on State Street in Media beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tours will begin at 6 p.m. In between tours, we’ll network while enjoying snacks and drinks (cash bar) at Sligo and enjoy author's remarks.

PLEASE NOTE: Tour groups will be limited to 15 people. Wear comfy shoes. The tour takes about 45 minutes. The second floor of Sligo is only accessible by stairs. Attendees are asked to wear masks at the event when not eating or drinking.

About the Author:

Matt Lake is a magazine and book editor with freelance writing bylines in dozens of publications including The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Popular Science. He is best known for his work on the Weird U.S. book series and locally for co-founding the Media dark history walk.

About the Book:

"Media Gothic: A Stroll Through State Street’s Dark History," is a collection of historical accounts, true crime stories, and paranormal happenings from the Borough of Media. Each story is tied to a place you probably walk past all the time. Each of the stories is the result of in-depth research and interviews. The authors pored through books, archives, newspapers, and libraries and spoke to dozens of people to get a balanced account. Thanks to the good people of the Media Historic Archives, they also unearthed some fantastic old photographs to illustrate them.

Join us at Sligo on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 6 – 8 p.m.

(Check in and networking begin at 5:30 p.m.)

Please consider bringing a new book or two for students in grades K through eighth for the Press Club’s Book Drive.
