About the Event
The Delaware County Press Club joins local artist, graphic designer, and author George Rothacker for a Happy Hour and Gallery Tour on Wednesday, October 18, 4 -7 p.m., at his art gallery and home in Villanova, Pa. This special event will introduce Rothacker’s latest book, “Comedy of Errors,” a fictional autobiography of a child with few hopes who finds his way to success as a graphic novelist through adaptability, persistence, and patience.
Besides his later career as a novelist, Rothacker has owned and operated an advertising and design business in Media and Lima for more than 45 years. He is perhaps best known throughout Delaware County for his paintings of landscapes and structures in Radnor Township, West Philadelphia, Eastern University, as well as his paintings and prints of the Media and Anthony Wayne Theaters, and other movie houses throughout the area.
In addition to hosting Rothacker’s debut of “Comedy of Errors,” the Club will announce its collaboration with Rothacker and Hilltop Preparatory School in an essay writing competition for juniors and seniors of the school. Press Club members will join Rothacker and Hilltop faculty as jurors for the contest, which offers cash awards for the winning Hilltop student entries.
Essays will focus on 20th Century Writers chosen from Rothacker’s collection of paintings viewable at: http://www.modernamericanwriters.com. Students will explore the paintings, research the writer of their choice, and create original writings about that individual with prizes to be announced in early November.
The awards will be funded with donations from the Press Club, Rothacker and private and corporate donations.
The Hilltop School provides life-changing experiences for bright and creative students who struggle with academic success due to learning difficulties including ADHA, high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder learning disabilities, and anxiety.
Members and guests will enjoy complimentary cocktails, wine, and hors d’oeuvres, and a tour of the gallery featuring a collection of Rothacker’s artwork, created over a period of more than 50 years. Prints of his paintings and copies of his books will be available for sale. Proceeds from sales will be added to the contest.
Cost to attend is $20 for members with reservations and $25 for non-members and walk-ins.
The Rothacker Gallery is located in a red barn behind his home at 216 Radnor Chester Road in Villanova, marked by a white fence and a yellow mailbox. Free parking is available on the lawns on both sides of the long driveway leading to his house.
