About the Event
The Delaware County Press Club visits Delco's only sports museum, the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum, at 301 Iven Avenue, Wayne, for a tour and indoor tailgate lunch on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11 a.m.
The Press Club will tour the multi-level museum which has seven galleries with permanent collections displaying personal memorabilia from Delco Athletes in their respective specialized fields. In all, there are 150 years of Delaware County Sports History on display. The first floor includes the Mickey Vernon Gallery, dedicated to Delco Baseball lore; the Jane Barkman/Mary Ellen Clark Wide World of Women's Sports Gallery; and the hometown Radnor Township Sports Atrium Gallery. On the second floor are the Ted Meredith Olympic Gallery; the Emlen Tunnell Football Gallery; the Jack Ramsay Basketball Gallery; and the All-Sports Gallery.
In honor of Women's History Month, Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum board member Harry Chaykun, the Dean of Delaware County women’s sports, will tell us about the most memorable female sports’ personalities that he has covered for the past 50 years.
Special guest, Jennifer Frudakis Petry, the sculptor for the Delco great athletes Emlen Tunnell, Fredia Gibbs, and Billy White Shoes Johnson statues, will also attend.
Following the tour, we'll enjoy a fun indoor tailgate lunch, featuring a buffet of cold sandwiches and wraps, salad, chips, cookies, and drinks, in the museum auditorium.
Join us at the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 11 – 1 p.m.
