About the Event
The Press Club celebrates the conclusion of a successful season with a Happy Hour event at the Crystal Room at The Media Theatre on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4 – 7p.m. The Happy Hour ticket price includes live music entertainment by the Woodland String Band, finger foods, and a cash bar.
The Happy Hour features a tribute to Barbara Ormsby, founder of the Delaware County Press Club, on her retirement after 64 years of covering local news. She’s written for the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times, Town Talk, KYW News Radio, The Spirit, and a number of other publications and news outlets.
The end-of-season event will also include a brief overview of the Club’s 2023-2024 season; recognition of the outgoing Board members; announcement and introduction of the four recipients of the Club’s endowed scholarships at Penn State University, Temple University, and Delaware County Community College; and presentation of the Club’s annual financial award. The annual award rotates among colleges and universities in Delaware County that offer a Communications studies major. This year, Neumann University will receive the award.
Special guest James May, James May Costume Company, will present charitable contributions – 100% of the proceeds from the Jason Kelce retirement sale of the Eagles’ Championship Hat - to the Mummers Against Cancer Foundation and Voices for Silent Heroes – The Michael Strange Foundation. Accepting on behalf of the Mummers will be members of the Woodland String Band and accepting on behalf of the veterans will be Joe Griffies, WIBG’s “Welcome Home Veterans” host, and several other invited military veterans.
Press Club events are open to the public. Tickets for the Happy Hour event are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers and walk-ins.
